The Update: March 28

First of all, a welcome to the newest member of the Rockies blogosphere, the simply but aptly-named Colorado Rockies Blog.  You'll also find a new thing, a non-Rockies-themed blog, on the links, a blog themed after one of our NL West brethren, Padres Blog.

Apparently I defeated my argument about the pecking order in my first paragraph.  The Dodgers are my pick to win the West as well, though that obviously is not what I'd like to happen.

On to some news... Miguel Ojeda may be with the team out of spring training thanks to Yorvit Torrealba's rough, injury-plagued spring that only got worse after he was struck on the right biceps by a foul ball.  Danny Ardoin has already been penciled in as the starter, but have the Rockies forgotten about JD Closser completely?  Also, Troy Tulowitzki is tearing up Minor League camp.

Josh Fogg is now making a strong case to be the Rockies' fifth starter, which presents quite a pickle for the Rockies.  Both he and Zach Day are out of options, and neither apparently wants to pitch out of the bullpen.  Even though Sunny Kim is probably better than either one, I think he may be relegated to the swingman role basically because he's the only one willing to do it.  The Rockies may then have to trade either Fogg or Day since both want to start, but obviously both won't start with Jennings, Cook, Francis, and BK holding the first four spots in the rotation, and either one would likely refuse an assignment to Triple-A.

From the mailbag, Choo Freeman is probably going to make the Opening Day roster.  That's good.

With the impending coming of Opening Day, Coors Effect will be updated nightly (perhaps more) with Rockies rundowns, plus prospect watch/minor league reports.  Can't wait.
